Self-guided bilateral stimulation

Follow the light. Let the rest go quiet.

BMDR is a small practice space that lives in your browser. A single point of light sways left to right at a pace you choose, with a low tone that travels with it. You follow. That’s the whole practice — no account, no feed, no noise.

Built to leave you alone

Local only

Everything happens on your device. There’s no login, no sync, and no server waiting on the other end. Close the tab and the session is gone.

Auto-pause

Switch tabs or let the screen sleep and the session stops on its own. It never runs at you — it waits for you to come back.

No gamification

No streaks, badges, or reminders. The app doesn’t want you back tomorrow. It’s done when you feel done.

The method

A steady rhythm,
left to right

Bilateral stimulation is a simple pattern: your attention is guided from one side of your body to the other, over and over, at a steady pace. Therapists use versions of it inside EMDR, a structured therapy for processing difficult memories. BMDR is not that. It borrows the rhythm — not the clinical protocol — and gives you a quiet place to use it on your own terms: to settle before sleep, to come down after a hard conversation, to give a racing mind one predictable thing to hold.

Worth saying plainly

BMDR is a practice tool, not treatment. It isn’t a medical device and it doesn’t replace care. If you’re carrying something heavy, that work belongs in a room with a professional.

One session, five moves

01

Arrive

Open the practice space. The status line reads Stillness. Nothing moves until you ask it to.

Status · Stillness
02

Set the pace

One slider sets how fast the light travels — from a slow 0.2 Hz drift to a brisk 3.0 Hz sweep. Most people settle in near the 1.2 Hz default.

Visual pace · 0.2–3.0 Hz
03

Shape the anchor

Make the light as small as 20 px or as bold as 150 px, pick one of four colors, and choose its path — a straight Gentle Sway or a looping Infinite Flow.

Anchor · 20–150 px
04

Follow

Press play and the status turns to Flowing. Keep your head still and let your eyes do the traveling. Turn on audio and a low tone built around 87 Hz pans ear to ear — locked to the light, or on its own rhythm.

Audio · 87 Hz core

Return

Tap anywhere to pause. Sit for a breath before you go. And if life interrupts mid-session, BMDR pauses itself and waits.

Every control,

These aren’t mockups. The sliders below run the same ranges as the app itself — drag them and watch the anchor respond.

Visual pace

How fast the anchor travels, in full left-right cycles per second.

Anchor size

The light can be a pinpoint or a presence. Size changes apply instantly, mid-session.

Two flow patterns

Gentle Sway is the classic straight line. Infinite Flow traces a slow figure-eight that never feels mechanical.

Gentle sway · linear
Infinite flow · lissajous

The 87 Hz audio layer

The tone is built from two voices around an 87 Hz core, and its loudness shifts between your ears to match the anchor’s position.

Sub · 43.5 Hztriangle wave, the floor
Core · 87 Hzreference pitch
Harmonic · 174 Hzsine, mixed at 40%

A soft compressor keeps it from ever spiking, and the whole thing fades in over 1.5 seconds. Nothing startles. Audio can follow the light exactly, or run at its own 0.2–3.0 Hz pace.

Quiet engineering

  • Escape closes the settings sheet; one tap anywhere pauses or resumes.
  • Every control is labeled for screen readers, with live announcements for state changes.
  • The session pauses itself the moment the tab is hidden.
  • One file. Loads once, then works without a connection.

FAQ

No. BMDR is a single page that runs in any modern browser — open it and you’re in. On a phone you can add it to your home screen and it behaves like an app. Once it has loaded, it doesn’t need a connection.

On purpose. Bilateral stimulation only does its job while you’re actually following the anchor, so the moment the tab is hidden the session stops. When you come back, you resume with one tap — no lost settings.

A low tone built around an 87 Hz core: a triangle wave at 43.5 Hz underneath and a soft sine at 174 Hz above it. As the light travels, the loudness shifts between your left and right ear. A gentle compressor keeps the level even, and it fades in over 1.5 seconds.

They help. The left-right movement of the tone is the point, and headphones make it unmistakable. Speakers work too, and the audio is entirely optional — plenty of people practice with the light alone.

No. EMDR is a structured psychotherapy done with a trained clinician. BMDR borrows one ingredient — the steady left-right rhythm — for self-guided settling and focus. It isn’t treatment, and it isn’t a substitute for working with a professional on difficult material.

Gentle Sway moves the anchor along a straight, even line — the classic side-to-side. Infinite Flow traces a slow figure-eight, which some people find easier to follow for longer sessions because it never feels repetitive.

Nothing, because there isn’t any. No account, no analytics, no tracking pixels. Your session runs on your device and ends there. There is nothing to delete because nothing was kept.

Yes. The adjustment sheet slides up over the session at any time — pace, size, color, pattern, and audio all apply the moment you touch them. Escape or the close button puts it away without breaking your rhythm.
